Ideally, Muslim community life with non-Muslims will demonstrate two principle benefits:

1. Non-Muslims will see the beauty of Islam and be drawn to it.

2. Muslims will see the repulsiveness attendant to other belief systems and will be repelled from it.

Indeed, Omar used to say that one who hasn't known kufr hasn't know Islam.

Shaykh Abdallah has remarked that the above situation is impossible if the Muslims are powerless, grovelling, practicing a culture derivative from others, and being hypocritical in regards to their faith and what it demands from them. This is one of the explanations of Allah's statement:

“رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا”

“Our Lord, make us not a trial for the disbelievers” (60:5)
