“Indeed, We have sent down to you the Book, [O Muhammad], in truth. So worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion.” (39:2)

At this point Shaykh Abdallah delivered to us the blunt truth:

This religion is all we have. What your fathers did is nothing. Some people talk about their forefathers because there's nothing good to mention about what we're doing in the present. The Muslims are no different, caught up in whimsical reminiscence about eras gone by: 'we had Andalusia, we began the scientific revolution…' What are you now? What are you doing now?
