The stomach is the king of all desires. When the stomach is full and satiated, the rest of your senses are free to desire; our vision can look with lust, your tongue can speak ill of others.

To this effect the Prophet said that the most evil thing a human can fill is his stomach. When you tame the stomach and purposely deprive it, the other desires are muted or disappear entirely, at least for a time.
