In a world that is fast being engulfed by darkness of all sorts, most of us yearn for some light. There are people that walk the earth with light; they see with clear clarity and are enlightened from within. It doesn’t mean that they don’t have any problems, but it means that despite the problems, they feel peace and are well-nourished and protected by their Iman.

“The Prophet PBUH never prayed more than eleven units, whether during Ramadan or otherwise. He would perform four units but do not ask about their beauty and length, then he’d perform another four units, but do not ask about their beauty and length, then he’d pray three (witr)”
(Bukhari and Muslim)
Is “being upon the prophetic way” just about imitating the number of the prophet’s units at night, or does it also include imitating the quality of those units as well?

The Ramadan Burnout

The believer who knows His Rabb is mindful of finding meaning in his acts of worship. He might not be perfect in doing this but he tries. He may have certain goals—perhaps he has assigned himself certain chapters to recite each day. Each morning he reminds himself to not let this assigned quantity become the goal. The quantity of recitation that he has assigned for himself is a means to an end. The end is a connection with Allāh. It is mindfulness of Allāh. With each page he turns he tries to engage his heart to find that connection.

What invalidates the fast?

Some of the things that invalidate the fast involve things coming out of the body, such as intercourse, deliberate vomiting, menstruation and cupping. These things that come out of the body weaken it. Hence Allaah has described them as being things that invalidate the fast, so that the fasting person will not combine the weakness that results from fasting with the weakness that results from these things, and thus be harmed by his fast or his fast no longer be moderate. Some of the things that invalidate the fast involve things entering the body, such as eating and drinking. If the fasting person eats or drinks, he does not achieve the purpose of fasting.
