In a world that is fast being engulfed by darkness of all sorts, most of us yearn for some light. There are people that walk the earth with light; they see with clear clarity and are enlightened from within. Allah is subtle and He wishes only that we are humble enough to notice His gentle messages and act upon them. They say that death is the final submission; we fall into the arms of death and finally submit. There’s no more free will after that as a long process begins which sees us taken from earth and through to the next life until the Day of Resurrection when God calls us altogether with a single call.

The heart of Musa’s mother became ‘farigh‘ (empty), but an empty heart can only lie in wait to be filled back somehow. May Allah console every grieving mother, father, sibling and loved one, and all those who suffer from fear and loss, ameen.

We unfortunately waste so much time and barakah in our lives because we’re busy sizing each other up, or scrutinizing each other, or secretly keeping tabs on each other lol. We see someone in worship and begin to analyse everything about their worship (while forgetting ours).

It’s a beautiful habit to have; conversing with Allah about yourself and situation. Talk to Him regularly, not just in du’a and to ask of Him, but just to talk… To offload your issues, to find support, to clear your mind, to reconnect. He is more than just a God Who gives; He is your Wali (friend, supporter, and protector).

Humans are impatient by nature – and this is something that stems from the fact that we were created hasty (as Allah said, “Man has been created hasty” [21: 37]). We don’t have patience at our core; it’s something we have to develop.

After mentioning blessings, Allah calls us to show thanks to Him. Then He says that He has only made haram (unlawful) a few things – and this is so true subhan’Allah. If you really think about it, not many things are haram in this life, but Shaytan and society makes us believe that our religion is so restrictive and that everything is haram!

There will always be someone who knows more than you, who understands things faster and is better at academics. There will always be someone who is wealthier than you, who gets what they want, earns more, and probably spends more. There will always be someone more beautiful or handsome, who attracts compliments and looks better than you in a dress or suit. There will always be someone better than you. But there can never be someone exactly like you, and that’s the part we don’t notice – because we are too busy trying to be like others.

Patience is a hard lesson to learn. Most people pick it up during their times of difficulty and sorrow, because they’re forced to wait through their hardship and take each day as it comes. But we don’t realise that patience is also required during days of jubilance and joy.

Hamd – an eternal word which spans from the beginning of time; a spiritual place that is both timeless and spaceless, to a lowly life on earth fixed by a decreed time, to yet another realm that will be endless and joyful for some, painful for others. In all, we thank and praise Allah `azza wa jall and so He remains worshipped by all in the heavens and the earth, both aforetime and in the future.

It’s a choice, and for those who are harmed because of their choice to defend then there are the comforting words of the Prophet (s) which the Qur’an has eternalised: “Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us.” And so like Abu Bakr, you work on and walk on because you believe with certainty and truthfully (sidq) in the Promise of your Lord.
